This is not an ordinary job. Mikaelsgården is an open meeting place for people in vulnerable situations. Here, individuals who may be homeless, living with mental health issues, or struggling with addiction come to have their basic needs met – but equally important are the community, relationships, and the opportunity to take steps forward in life. The kitchen is the heart of the operation. We are now looking for someone who wants to take responsibility for this heart – with both structure and warmth.

About the role

As the housekeeper at Mikaelsgården, you will be responsible for breakfast and lunch service, planning and preparing food, and ensuring that the kitchen operates as a safe, welcoming, and sustainable part of the organization. You will lead and support volunteers, collaborate closely with colleagues, and be an important part of the daily interaction with our guests.

The environment can sometimes be chaotic and unpredictable – but it is also meaningful, vibrant, and full of encounters that truly matter.

We are looking for someone who

  • is social, comfortable meeting people, and enjoys working closely with others
  • can see opportunities and find solutions, even when everything is not fully thought out
  • has experience in food handling and kitchen work
  • thrives in an environment that can be intense and changing
  • can plan, prioritize, and document
  • is team-oriented and enjoys working collaboratively
  • has experience in – or interest in – leading and mentoring volunteers
  • is flexible and enjoys that no day is the same
  • has a good ability to handle pressure and pace, with steadiness and presence
  • can set boundaries in a clear and loving way

We appreciate life experience and a holistic view of people and situations. You do not need to be an expert in everything – but you should be confident in yourself and open to learning.

Core values – the most important

To thrive in this role, you need to share the values of Uppsala Stadsmission. This means that:

  • every person is met with dignity and respect
  • we see people's resources, not just their difficulties
  • professionalism and humanity go hand in hand
  • we work for hope, participation, and change

This is non-negotiable – it is the foundation of everything we do.

We offer

  • a job where you make a real difference every day
  • a warm, engaged work community
  • a context where the kitchen is more than food – it is about relationships, safety, and community

Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis during the application period.

Application deadline: January 25, 2026
